Fire Damages Sacristy at St. Paul the Apostle Seminary in Mangochi

Mangochi, Malawi – A fire broke out at St. Paul the Apostle Seminary on Friday, 18th July 2025, causing significant damage to part of the chapel. The blaze, which started around 2:00 PM, affected the sacristy and destroyed a cabinet containing sacred liturgical items.

Among the items lost were Missals, Hymnals, and altar candles essential for liturgical celebrations. While no injuries were reported, the incident has left a deep emotional impact on the seminary community.

Authorities, together with diocesan officials, have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

In a statement, the Diocese of Mangochi called on the faithful to pray for the seminary community, offering them comfort and spiritual support during this difficult time. The Diocese also expressed its hope that God’s peace and protection will continue to rest upon the seminary and all who dwell within its walls.
