Diocese of Mangochi Launches Global Climate Fund Project to Strengthen Rural Health and Resilience

Mangochi, Malawi – On the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15, 2025, the Catholic Health Commission (CHC) of the Diocese of Mangochi officially launched the Global Climate Fund Project at Chimwala School grounds.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Government of Malawi, Save the Children, and CRECCOM, seeks to promote climate-resilient health and well-being in rural communities most affected by climate change.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Noah Chimpeni, Deputy Minister of Health, officially inaugurated the project, affirming the government’s commitment to working with faith-based and civil society partners in safeguarding the health of vulnerable populations.

The project, which will run for five years, focuses on strengthening community resilience to climate shocks, improving access to health services, and promoting sustainable practices that protect both human life and the environment.

In his remarks, the Catholic Health Commission expressed profound gratitude to the Global Climate Fund for its generous support and to all partners who have made the initiative possible.

“This project reflects the Church’s mission to safeguard human dignity and care for our common home,” the CHC stated.

The launch, held on a Marian feast day, was seen as a moment of hope and renewal, calling communities to work together in protecting creation and ensuring a healthier future for generations to come.
