Triple Celebration at St. Augustine Cathedral: Confirmation, Bible Month Launch, and Legion of Mary Closing Conference

On August 31, 2025, St. Augustine Cathedral – Mangochi Parish experienced a day of triple celebration as 71 Christians received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Bible Month was launched, and the Legion of Mary Diocesan Conference concluded. The Solemn Mass, presided over by Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, the Prelate of the Diocese of Mangochi, served as a fitting culmination of these important events.

In his homily, Bishop Stima reflected on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, which enabled the Apostles to become “courageous to preach the gospel, and to fight the devil.” He encouraged the newly confirmed Christians to emulate this courage, saying, “With the sacrament of confirmation, they have also been sent as soldiers of Christ to defeat the devil. They were encouraged not to get tired because if they do, the devil will defeat them.” The Bishop emphasized the importance of perseverance, noting that “the Holy Spirit leads us to do good wherever we find ourselves to be.”

The launch of the Bible Month marked a significant moment in the diocese’s spiritual calendar. September, traditionally designated as the month of the Bible, offers Catholics an opportunity to intensify their reading and reflection of the Holy Scripture. This initiative aims to deepen the faithful’s understanding of God’s word and foster a more profound relationship with the divine.

The Legion of Mary Diocesan Conference, which concluded on this day, brought together members of the Legion from across the diocese for a three-day spiritual retreat. The conference provided a platform for spiritual growth, reflection, and evangelization, emphasizing the Legion’s commitment to serving the Lord and spreading His message.

Mangochi Parish has confirmed 113 Christians this year, including 42 who received the sacrament yesterday at Mase Sub-parish. Given the demographic context of the parish, where the majority of the population is Muslim, this achievement is a testament to the parish’s dedication to evangelization and discipleship. The Diocese of Mangochi can take pride in this remarkable achievement, which reflects the tireless efforts of its clergy, religious, and lay faithful.

As the parish and diocese celebrate this triple blessing, they are reminded of the importance of perseverance in their faith journey, the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, and the significance of deepening their relationship with God’s word.
