Mangochi, Malawi – The Diocese of Mangochi joyfully joined Fr. Joseph Kimu, his family, friends, and countless spiritual sons and daughters in celebrating his 40th Ruby Priestly Anniversary at St. John the Baptist – DMI University Church. The celebration radiated gratitude and reverence, reflecting Fr. Kimu’s four decades of unwavering dedication to the Gospel and to the people he has faithfully shepherded.
A Shepherd Honoured for Four Decades of Service
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangochi. In his homily, Bishop Stima praised Fr. Kimu as a priest who has served “with distinction, despite numerous challenges,” describing him as “a shining example of steadfast commitment to the priestly vocation.”
The moment was one of heartfelt recognition as the faithful listened to testimonies of Fr. Kimu’s pastoral zeal, compassion, and openness to all. Speakers highlighted his ability to embrace and serve people of every background, embodying Christ’s universal invitation of love.
A Moving Moment of Grace
One of the most emotional points of the celebration arrived during the singing of the Magnificat. A young liturgical dancer stepped forward and presented Fr. Kimu with a beautifully crafted Rosary. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Fr. Kimu was moved to tears — a gesture that deeply touched everyone present.
As Scripture reminds us, “You have kept count of my tears” (Ps 56:8). These tears, offered in humility and thanksgiving, spoke eloquently of a lifetime spent in the vineyard of the Lord — a witness to the simple truth that “labour is transformed by grace.”

The celebration stood as a powerful tribute to a priest whose life has been defined by dedication, sacrifice, and love for the Church. Quoting St. Augustine, Bishop Stima reminded the faithful: “We are the Body of Christ, and each of us is a part of it.” Fr.
