In a touching demonstration of corporate social responsibility, the National Bank of Malawi has upgraded key facilities at Nankhwali Health Centre, an essential healthcare provider in the Diocese of Mangochi. The handover ceremony, attended by His Lordship Bishop Montfort Stima, showcased the Bank’s dedication to enhancing healthcare quality in the community.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed,” a wise saying, rings true in this instance, as the National Bank of Malawi has demonstrated its dedication to serving the people of Nankhwali. The MK12 million donation has transformed the maternity wing, pharmacy, consultation rooms, and guardians’ kitchen, enhancing hygiene, patient care, and service delivery.
“This generous contribution will benefit approximately 11,000 clients annually, bringing hope and healing to the community,” said Bishop Stima, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Diocese of Mangochi. The Catholic Church acknowledges the National Bank’s support, recognizing its impact on the lives of the faithful and the broader community.
The renovation includes the tiling of the pharmacy and maternity wing floors, a crucial step in improving infection control and patient outcomes. Staff from the National Bank also presented gifts to children and patients, embodying the spirit of Christian charity.
Nankhwali Health Centre, established in 1956, serves a population of 19,000 across 17 villages. Its proximity to Monkey-bay Community Hospital makes it a vital healthcare hub. The Diocese of Mangochi is grateful for the National Bank’s investment in the health and well-being of its people.
The event was attended by Fr. Ted Chigamba, Parish Priest of Nankhwali Parish, traditional and community leaders, and representatives from the National Bank.
As Pope Francis reminds us, “The joy of loving others, of being at their service, is the best gift we can give to them and to ourselves.” The National Bank of Malawi’s generosity is a shining example of this principle in action.
