On January 18, 2026, the Catholic Teachers Association of St. Louis the Great – Mpiri Parish, Diocese of Mangochi, gathered for a thanksgiving Mass at St. Kizito – Ngokwe Church, an outstation of the parish, to express their gratitude for their noble profession. The Mass, presided over by Parish Priest Fr. Danasio Malajira, celebrated the teachers’ dedication to their vocation, echoing Pope Francis’ words, “The joy of the Gospel is the joy of the teacher, who walks with the students, sharing with them the treasure he or she has received” (Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the World Day of Teachers, 2025).
A charitable initiative followed the celebration, as the association shared assorted food items with the elderly around Ngokwe Centre, embodying the spirit of service and charity that is at the heart of the Church’s mission. “Let us not forget that true power is service” (Pope Francis, Homily, 24 May 2015).
In his remarks, Mr. Time Alex, Secretary of the Association, highlighted the significance of the event, stating that the teachers represented all the members of the association in sharing their contributions with the elderly. Mr. David Mlichi, Chairperson of the Association, thanked members for their generosity and encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s education, emphasizing the importance of responsible parenting.
Fr. Danacio Malajira praised the association’s charitable efforts, saying, “Today you have preached through action.” He encouraged teachers to lead exemplary lives and to consider using their profession to serve the Church, particularly in teaching catechism.
The event was a testament to the teachers’ dedication to their faith and community, embodying the Church’s call to “serve the Lord with joy” (Psalm 100:2).
