From Seminary Formation to Parish Leadership: Diocese of Mangochi Appoints Fr. George Nyanga to Monkey Bay Parish

After nearly two decades dedicated to forming future priests, Rev. Fr. George Nyanga is returning to frontline pastoral ministry following his appointment as Parish Priest of Monkey Bay Parish by the Bishop of the Diocese of Mangochi, Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima.

The appointment was announced on June 19, 2026, as part of a series of new assignments affecting priests across the Diocese of Mangochi.

For many in the Catholic Church in Malawi, Fr. Nyanga’s name is closely associated with priestly formation. Ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Mangochi in 1997, he has spent sixteen years as a formator at St. Anthony’s Kachebere Major Seminary, one of Malawi’s principal institutions for the formation of future priests.

His journey at Kachebere began in 2007, where he served until 2010 before leaving for further studies in Rome. He later earned a Licentiate degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University and returned to Kachebere in 2013. Since then, he has continued to accompany seminarians in their spiritual, academic, and human formation, helping shape a generation of priests now serving in dioceses and religious congregations across Malawi and beyond.

As he prepares to leave Kachebere, members of the seminary community have expressed profound gratitude for his years of dedicated service, describing him as a mentor, guide, and father figure to countless seminarians.

“Fr. George Nyanga has left an indelible mark on the life of the seminary through his commitment to priestly formation, pastoral wisdom, and fatherly care,” members of the Kachebere community noted while wishing him God’s abundant blessings in his new assignment.

His appointment to Monkey Bay Parish marks a significant new chapter in his priestly ministry. Having spent years preparing others for pastoral service, he now returns to parish leadership where he will directly shepherd the faithful and continue the mission of evangelization in one of the Diocese’s key parishes.

The Diocese of Mangochi has welcomed the appointment with joy, recognizing Fr. Nyanga’s wealth of experience, spiritual maturity, and commitment to serving the Church.
