eld at St. Mary’s Pastoral Centre at Ntaja in Machinga. The training drew catechists from all the 25 parishes of the Diocese of Mangochi and was under the theme Word of God is the Lamp of My Life.

During the training Fr Samuel Malamulo, who trained the catechists urged them to be the lamp to other Christians.

“You are the first people to be trained on how to read and understand the Bible. Make the Christians to love reading the Bible with understanding. People read it as a novel, as a magazine, as a newspaper because sometimes it has interesting stories. Go and be the lamp to them so that they are mentored with what you have learned here,” said Fr. Malamulo.

Director of Mangochi Diocese Catechists, Fr. Charles Kaponya, said the theme of the ongoing formation was deliberately chosen to be in line with the Year of the Bible.

One of the participants, catechist Matthews Mchakulu from Nankhwali Parish, the training has helped him have a good understanding of the Bible. He further said that he will impart the knowledge got and encourage Christians to have bibles.
