Nsanama, Machinga – In fulfillment of his pastoral duties, Bishop Montfort Stima of the Diocese of Mangochi conducted a pastoral visit to St. Martin de Porres – Nsanama Parish, emphasizing the call to holiness and renewal.
The day’s proceedings began with a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Stima. In his homily, he exhorted the faithful to strive for holiness, stating, “We are called to the holiness of life.” (cf. LCCC, n. 16). The Bishop reflected on the mystery of incarnation, highlighting the reality of sin, which he described as “missing the mark (God), missing track… breaking the covenant.” He cautioned against the improper use of social media and urged the faithful to shun hypocrisy, embracing love and generosity towards the needy.
As the Lenten season approaches, Bishop Stima reminded the congregation, “It is time for renewal.” He encouraged them to prepare for Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of this sacred period.
Following the Mass, the Bishop engaged with the parishioners, responding to the Parish Moderator’s report and offering guidance. He stressed the importance of building a participatory Church, witnessing their faith, and promoting a clear vision. “This is the time to build Churches in our hearts,” he said, emphasizing the need for effective leadership, strong families, and vibrant Small Christian Communities (cf. Ecclesia in Africa, n. 91).
Nsanama Parish, one of six in the Mpiri Deanery, was urged to prioritize these areas, striving for a more profound expression of faith and community life.
