On 8th January 2023, the Catholic Church celebrated the Epiphany of the Lord. It is a day set apart to give chance to the children to take part in the church especially during liturgy.

In the diocese of Mangochi, this celebration was done in the parishes differently. For example, at St. Magdalene of Canossa (Koche) Parish, almost all children came to the parish church to participate in this celebration. The Holy Mass was presided over by bishop Montfort Stima, of the diocese of Mangochi. A children choir from St. Tereza (Namiasi) church took a leading role in the singing during liturgy while the scriptural readings were taken by children from St. Peter’s (Makawa) church and the intercessions were taken by children of St. Magdalene of Canossa (Koche) church. After mass, they had a communal meal and then went to the ground to have their social activities.

In his homily, bishop Stima urged all Catholic children to grow spiritually and they should be the light to others including in their families. He also pleaded with all parents to give chance and help their children to get involved in church activities. He further advised them together with the church leaders to support these children in their ministry and with love, solve the problems which they encounter.

In his remarks, Fr. Paul Rappozo, the parish priest of St. Magdalene of Canossa (Koche) parish and also the Pontifical Missionary Societies (PMS) director in the diocese of Mangochi, thanked the bishop for his presence. He also encouraged parents to help children to join a Bible Quiz which is conducted both on WhatsApp forum and Radio Maria.
