The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) through Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) of the Diocese of Mangochi has been distributing some hand-outs to 2, 000 households who are the survivors of Cyclone Freddy which hit Malawi especially in its southern part in the month of March. The aid has come with financial support from Caritas Italiana, which donated K100 million to CADECOM. Besides this, the local Catholics also showed their spirit of solidarity by donating some clothes, which were also distributed alongside the other supplies.

Speaking at Nkasaulo Catholic Church on 23rd June, 2023, Village head Justin who is also a faith leader at a  local Mosque, described such a donation as a huge relief to the affected households. He said the relief supplies will alleviate the suffering which came due to the cyclone. Further, a villager from Pongolani village, Esnart Bauleni, a mother with six children, expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church for ensuring that every survivor benefits without considering their political and religious affiliations.
