EASTERN MALAWI TO HOLD ACJ AGM IN 2020, HOLDS A RETREAT

After successfully holding the 2019 annual general conference for the catholic women organization (CWO) in 2019, the eastern region of Malawi is again geared to hold the annual general meeting (AGM) of the association of catholic journalists ACJ in Mangochi diocese in the country.

Speaking during a preparatory retreat under the theme “Journalism a tool of Evangelization” organized for ACJ members in the region, Mangochi diocese communications chaplain Father Harry Mang’anda has called on members in the region and at national level to join hands to ensure that the forthcoming annual indaba is held successfully.

“As days continue numbering, let us wake up and start preparing to hold this important meeting. Let’s share responsibilities and implement them. You know there are a lot that need to be done before the meeting, so everybody should take responsibility “said Mang’anda.

Held on 21st December,2019, the retreat was organized for ACJ members in the region to enable them take stock of their lives and see how to move in the new year 2020.

“This retreat should help you to reflect on how you carried yourself spiritually in the year ending and see how you will perform in the new year”, he said.

In his sermon guest speaker at the retreat Father Edwin Lambulira emphasized that journalists have a huge responsibility in informing the society and that they should always understand that what they disseminate has a potential to influence. The recollection was followed by a meeting where members present banged heads on how to handle the forth coming ACJ AGM.

The eastern region covers two dioceses of Zomba and Mangochi and the three-day AGM will take place in the lakeshore district of Mangochi around April 2020.The region will host the indaba after central region in 2017 and 2018 in Salima district and southern region had it done in 2019 in Blantyre.

The chapter has since asked stakeholders and well-wishers to assist with what they can manage to cover the costs of the general assembly.

ACJ was formed in 2005 to advance and spearhead the catholic church teachings through professional communication of issues happening in the church.

There are four ACJ regional chapters, North, South, Central and Eastern formed in 2017, following a resolution made at its first ever annual general meeting at Fish Eagles resort in Salima with the aim to simplify some of its (ACJ) activities in the country. As an umbrella body, the eastern region chapter envisions being a block that is vibrant and self-reliant to ensure that efforts of the ACJ national to serve the church in the area of communication are realized. The region has lined up a number of meetings in preparation for the AGM 2020.
