In a remarkable display of interfaith dialogue and cooperation, third-year students from the Inter-Congregational Institute visited a mosque in Balaka town, deepening their understanding of Islam as part of their academic curriculum.
The visit, facilitated by Fr. Ted Chigamba, was a resounding success, with the students receiving a warm and gracious welcome from their Muslim hosts. Accompanied by their lecturer, Fr. Martin Greneir, a Missionary of Africa, the students engaged in a lively and enlightening exchange, posing numerous questions about Islamic faith and practices.
The encounter perfectly illustrates the Catholic Church’s dedication to ecumenical dialogue and mutual understanding, as expressed in the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, Nostra Aetate. The warm reception given to the students by the Muslim community shows the power of interfaith cooperation and the shared values that support the Abrahamic faiths.
This visit emphasises the importance of promoting greater understanding and respect between different faith traditions and serves as a light of hope for continued dialogue and collaboration in the pursuit of peace and harmony.
