The Catholic Men Association (CMA) of Malawi will convene its 3rd Annual General Conference from 20 to 22 March 2026 at Kagwa Parish in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, bringing together over 2,000 delegates from dioceses across the country for prayer, reflection, and renewed missionary commitment.
Held under the theme, “Rooted in Christ, CMA Sent for a Mission as Agents of Evangelization,” the national gathering will coincide with the celebration of the Solemnity of St. Joseph, patron saint of Catholic men in Malawi.
In a press statement issued on 26 February 2026, CMA National Chairperson Onances Luke Nyirenda described the conference as “a moment of spiritual renewal and re-commitment for Catholic men to serve Christ, the Church, and our nation with greater zeal and integrity”.
A Time of Spiritual Renewal
The three-day program begins on Friday, March 20, with arrival and registration, followed by an opening prayer service and welcome remarks. A reflection led by Fr. Francis Damaseke will help participants reflect deeply on their identity as men, rooted in Christ and sent out on a mission.
Saturday’s programme will focus on key pastoral and social themes affecting the Church and society. Presentations will address the Church’s position on human trafficking, the implementation of the Synod II resolutions, and the role of Catholic men within the family. Strategic discussions will also include the presentation of the CMA Strategic Plan and the Annual General Meeting.
Holy Mass will form the heart of each day’s activities, underscoring the Eucharist as the source and summit of the Church’s life and mission.
Mission in Church, Family, and Society
The gathering aims to strengthen Catholic men in their vocation as evangelizers within their homes, parishes, and communities. Organizers note that beyond conferences and discussions, the meeting seeks to inspire practical witness — men who lead by faith, integrity, and service.
Clergy, religious, and lay leaders are expected to participate, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the Church in Malawi. Cultural performances and diocesan presentations will highlight unity in diversity among the faithful.
The conference will conclude on Sunday, 22 March, with a Solemn Closing Mass, adoption of a communiqué, and a closing ceremony before departure.
