On Sunday, 23rd August 2026, the Diocese of Mangochi launched this year’s diocesan World Mission Sunday Celebrations at St. Martin de Pores Nsanama Parish, which will be this year’s torchbearer for the celebrations, which will be held on 16th October.
The Eucharistic celebration marking the launch was presided over by His Lordship Montfort Stima, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mangochi.
Also in attendance were the diocesan Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Director, Father Paul Rappozo, and Nsanama Parish Priest, Father Clement Piluwa.
In his homily, Bishop Stima called upon Christians to take part in spreading the word of God through their offerings throughout the missionary period.
“God has blessed us differently, which we can use to spread the word of God. Money realized from World Mission Sunday has in the past helped us build pastoral centres, churches, seminaries, rectories, schools and hospitals. So we are asking you to give generously for this cause,” he said.
The bishop advised Christians from Nsanama Parish to accept the duty of spreading the word of God and show their strong faith in God through prayer and offering.
In his remarks, Parish Priest for Nsanama, Father Clement Piluwa indicated that they are determined to raising more funds for the World Mission Sunday and make sure that christians understand the concept through prayer and offering.
During the ceremony, all churches under Nsanama Parish received candles as a symbol of their acceptance to the duty of spreading the word of God.
This year’s World Mission Sunday is being celebrated under the theme: One in Christ, united in mission.
This comes at a time when the Catholic Church will this year celebrate 100 years for the existence of the World Mission Sunday, at an event that will be held on 3rd October in the Diocese of Mzuzu as a national celebration.
