Balaka, Malawi — The Youth of St. Louis – Balaka Parish came together on Saturday, 6 December 2025, for a vibrant celebration of the Jubilee of Hope, closing the Holy Year with a day dedicated to renewal, repentance, unity, and joyful Christian witness.
Hosted at Mepic Private Secondary School, the gathering brought together young people from across the parish to live out the pillars of the Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee.
A Pilgrimage of Purpose
The day opened with a symbolic pilgrimage from Mepic Secondary School to St. Louis Montfort Parish. The walk represented the Christian journey through life— “from the day we are born to the moment we enter God’s Kingdom,” explained Fr. Samuel Satiele, Parish Priest, as he opened the Holy Door of St. Louis Church. He reminded the youth that the Holy Door is a sign of God’s endless mercy and the promise of eternal life.
Talks That Inspired Courage and Growth
Inside the church, the youth engaged in empowering presentations:
- Sr. Catherine Kholi (Daughters of Wisdom) addressed mental health, emphasizing emotional resilience, healthy relationships, self-confidence, and the need to reject destructive habits. She encouraged young people to speak openly about personal struggles.
- Fr. Christopher Sichinga, Diocesan Youth Chaplain, unpacked the teaching of the Jubilee Year, calling it “a sacred time of renewal and a chance to begin again.” He reminded the youth that hope is visible everywhere — in creation, in elders, in graduates, and in vocations to religious life.
A Day Filled with Grace
The youth then took part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, encountering God’s mercy in confession. This spiritual milestone led to the Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Samuel Satiele. In his homily, Fr. Christopher Sichinga urged the young faithful to embrace God’s call and cultivate the fruits of faith, hope, and moral courage — the true fruits of the Jubilee.
Youth Leadership Speaks
Parish Youth Chairperson Andrew Lyton Ngomano expressed gratitude to the Parish Pastoral Team, the Executive Council, and the Diocesan Youth Chaplain. He affirmed that youth activities are now aligned with the parish’s mission and announced new spiritual and social development programs for 2026.
Fr. Sichinga proposed that the 2026 Parish Calendar prioritize Catholic Doctrine, accompaniment, mental health, care for creation, and skills development.
In his closing remarks, Fr. Satiele praised the youth for their active role in parish decision-making, acknowledging the mentorship of Bro. Felix Nimanya. Veteran missionary Fr. Eugenio Cucci also graced the celebration.
Missionaries of Hope
The 2025 Youth Jubilee reaffirmed a profound message: young people are called to be bearers of hope, shining the light of Christ in their families, communities, and beyond.
For the youth of St. Louis – Balaka Parish, the day was more than a gathering; it was a spiritual rebirth, strengthening unity, deepening faith, and inspiring renewed commitment to the mission of the Church.
