By the Office of Communications

The 3rd day of the month of February, 2024 was special for the servants of God in the Diocese of Mangochi since they had their get-together at a diocese level. This event took place at St. Louis (Balaka) Catholic parish, attended by both diocesan priests, religious brothers and sisters.

The program of the day was that at first, there was a session presented by Fr. Neser Ntiwa (OCD) entitled “Go and invite everyone to the banquet” (Mat. 22:9). In his presentation, the presenter hinted some aspects of life which are required to be embraced by those who were consecrated to God. “We were called to witness the presence of God in the world by the way of our life,” said the presenter.

After this presentation, there was an opportunity of the sacrament of confession and Mass followed afterwards, which was presided over by Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, the bishop of the diocese of Mangochi. All the servants of God were shining like angels as they entered the church, holding lit candles in their hands, while singing, dancing and praising God.

In his homily, Bishop Stima agreed with the presenter, by saying that we were called, not because we were worthy, but because God wants to save other people through us. As such, we have to let Jesus guide us and we rely on Him always.

The occasion is designed to be attended by pastoral agents: both diocesan priests and those in different religious congregations, to show their union among themselves as they establish the kingdom of God on earth. Its background is taken from its formation, whereby Blessed Paulo Manna, the founder of the society of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU), wished that the missionary union of priests and religious should promote an awareness of the church’s worldwide mission. It was founded on 31st October, 1916, with an aim of educating and informing priests, religious men and women, pastoral leaders and the responsible for catechesis and religious education in order to inspire others. This event takes place on every 2nd February, during the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. However, due to other reasons, such event can be shifted to another possible date.
