Bishop Stima Sends Off Young Delegates with Message of Unity and Holiness Ahead of National Children’s Congress

Mangochi, Malawi – As children from across Malawi prepare to gather for the first-ever National Children Congress, the Bishop of Mangochi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima gathered with the diocesan delegates to offer them a spiritual send-off. With warmth and pastoral affection, the Bishop encouraged the young pilgrims to carry with them the values of unity, holiness, and witness as they represent the Diocese of Mangochi at this landmark event.

Speaking during a special send-off gathering, Bishop Stima reminded the children that they journey not as individuals, but as a united family representing the Diocese of Mangochi. “You are going to Lilongwe not as individual parishes but as one Diocese of Mangochi,” he stressed. “Whatever you do—whether good or bad—will reflect on the Diocese. Behave and work as the Mangochi family.”

A Call to Witness God’s Presence

The Bishop encouraged the delegates to be witnesses of God’s presence through their words and actions. “Others should be able to see the face of God in you,” he said, encouraging the children to embody values of love, compassion, and unity during their time at the Congress.

Bishop Stima also spoke openly about the moral responsibilities the children carry, urging them to be honest, respectful, and generous. “Learn to respect other people’s property. Do not steal. Learn to share the little you have with those who have less,” he advised. “Avoid offending each other, and if you do, learn to say ‘I am sorry’ or be ready to forgive.”

Diverse Representation from Across the Diocese

The Diocese of Mangochi will be represented by delegates from 15 parishes, including St. Mary’s, Masuku, Namwera, Katema, Mangochi Cathedral, Monkey Bay, Koche, Ulongwe, Kapire, Chidzanja, Phalula, Balaka, Utale 1, Nsanama, Mpiri, and Holy Cross. The children were chosen for their active participation in parish life and their demonstrated commitment to the Church’s mission.

A Transformative Opportunity for Malawi’s Children

The National Children’s Congress marks a historic moment in the life of the Church in Malawi. The event is expected to be a transformative encounter, offering children a platform to deepen their faith, strengthen communal ties, and grow into agents of evangelization and hope.

Bishop Stima expressed confidence that the young pilgrims would return not only enriched by their experiences but also ready to share the lessons they have learned with peers who were unable to attend. “Be ambassadors of what you have gained,” he concluded. “Let your faith and witness inspire those around you.”

With the bishop’s blessing and the prayers of the faithful, the children now begin their spiritual journey with joy, responsibility, and a strong commitment to reflect Christ in their lives.
