NANKHWALI, Malawi – May 25, 2025. There was something special in the air at Nankhwali Parish this past weekend as young people came together to celebrate a milestone for the Young Christian Workers (YCW) movement. It wasn’t just a day of reflection; it was a powerful moment of rediscovery, recommitment, and a bold new beginning for the youth of the parish.
The day began with a Solemn Mass at the parish church – one of the most recognizable spiritual landmarks in the area. Fr. Chris Sichinga, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, led the liturgy with Fr. Ted Chigamba, the Parish Priest, concelebrating. Fr. Ted’s homily struck a chord with many, reminding the youth of their important role in the life of the Church and the world.
After Mass, the real energy of the event began to unfold. Fr. Chris gave a powerful talk on the theme: “Rooted in Faith, Committed to Action.” His words were honest and relatable, reigniting a deep sense of purpose among the YCW members. He spoke about faith not just as something to believe in, but as something to live out in daily life, especially through work, service, and leadership.
Fr. Chris also walked the group through a quick refresher on what the YCW movement is all about; its roots, mission, and the “See-Judge-Act” method that empowers young people to take faith-based action in their communities. It was an eye-opener for new members and a powerful reminder for returning ones.
The highlight of the day? The election of new YCW leaders. With enthusiasm and hope, members voted in a fresh leadership team ready to take the movement forward. The new leaders will be at the forefront of strengthening the group’s mission, bringing faith to life through service, teamwork, and real-world engagement.
Throughout the day, there was a catching spirit of joy, unity, and determination. The celebration wasn’t just about looking back, it was about stepping boldly into the future. The YCW members left the gathering with renewed confidence, ready to put their faith into action in their parish, schools, and workplaces.
As part of Nankhwali Parish’s ongoing Jubilee celebrations, this YCW revival is a shining sign of hope. The movement is not only back, it’s stronger, more vibrant, and more focused than ever. And for the youth involved, the message is clear: Now is the time to lead, serve, and witness.
