Pilgrims of Hope: Young Christian Workers (YCW) Unite in Faith and Action

In a show of unity with the universal Catholic Church, the Young Christian Workers (YCW) of the Diocese of Mangochi have embarked on a month-long jubilee celebration, infusing the month of May with hope, prayer, and charitable deeds. As part of the jubilee year’s calendar of events, the month of May has been designated as the YCW Jubilee Month—a time for young workers to deepen their faith and reaffirm their commitment to serving others, through prayer, outreach, and community engagement.

The festivities commenced on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, with a grand launch at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Ntaja, where the YCW movement was also formally introduced. This momentous occasion was presided over by Fr. Christopher Sichinga, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, who encouraged the newly formed section to anchor their activities on “prayer, charitable works, and action.” These core values, Fr. Sichinga emphasized, would serve as the bedrock of their apostolate, enabling them to bridge the gap between faith and reality through concrete actions.

As part of their jubilee celebrations, the YCW members paid a visit to Nchokola village, where they met Miss Alice, a disabled woman living with her children, who are also disabled, and in dire conditions. Moved by her plight, the young workers have embarked on a mission to build her a decent house, a tangible expression of their commitment to serving the vulnerable.

In his invitation to all parishes, Fr. Sichinga encouraged them to organize meaningful actions that reflect the YCW’s charism. “Parishes are free to celebrate the jubilee on any day within the month of May,” he said, extending an open hand to those without an established YCW presence to reach out to the Diocesan Youth Chaplaincy for support.

As the YCW jubilee month unfolds, it promises to be a time of spiritual rejuvenation, apostolic fervor, and concrete actions that bring hope and joy to those in need. May their witness of faith, hope, and charity inspire others to join them in their quest to build a more compassionate and just society.
