Utale 1 Parish children shine as Pilgrims of Hope as they celebrate Jubilee with joy and excitement

In a vibrant celebration of faith and youthful energy, the children of Utale 1 Parish in the Diocese of Mangochi came together on Sunday, April 27, 2025, to mark a special day in the Jubilee Year calendar. As “Pilgrims of Hope,” the children took centre stage in the liturgical activities, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm.

The day’s festivities began with a Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Fr. Steven Limbani, PMS Chaplain for Utale 1 Parish and Balaka Deanery. The Mass was a beautiful expression of the children’s faith, with many participating in the readings, prayers, and music.

The celebration continued with a fun-filled afternoon of sporting activities at Utale 1 Primary School. The children participated in a range of games, including a 100-meter relay race, sack race, eating and drinking competition, football, and netball. The atmosphere was electric, with laughter and cheers filling the air.

Cecilia Kandani, Secretary for the PMS Children Apostolate, reflected on the significance of the Jubilee celebration for the children. “This celebration is a milestone for us,” she said. “It demonstrates how the Church values and considers the children in its life. We encourage parents to continue providing spiritual support to their children.”

Cecilia also commended the parish for introducing a children’s Mass every Sunday at 6:00 am, saying it was a clear indication of the parish’s focus on pastoral care for children. She appealed to parents to support the children in their preparations for the forthcoming National Children Congress in Lilongwe.

Fr. Steven Limbani echoed Cecilia’s sentiments, encouraging parents to continue nurturing their children’s faith. “As children participate in the activities scheduled for this Jubilee Year, they will receive spiritual nourishment that will guide them in their journey of faith,” he said. He also urged parents to take an active role in encouraging their children to work hard in school and support their spiritual growth.

The celebration was a proof of the parish’s commitment to empowering children and nurturing their faith. As the children looked to the future, they did so with hope and excitement, knowing that they are valued and loved members of their community.
