As the Jubilee Year continues to unfold its blessings, the women of St. Peter’s – Lulanga Parish embarked on a profound spiritual journey, one that seeks to deepen their devotion to God and cultivating their roles as pillars of faith within their families and communities. From May 23rd to 25th, 2025, these devoted women gathered at St. Mary’s Church, an outstation of the parish, for a transformative retreat themed “Women as Pilgrims of Hope.”
Under the spiritual guidance of Fr. Dominic Chikondi Chikankheni, the Parish Priest, the women reflected on the importance of prayer in their lives, particularly during this sacred Jubilee Year. They explored ways to enhance love and charity in their families, small Christian communities, and the parish as a whole. As Fr. Chikankheni eloquently put it, “As women, you are called to be shining light of hope, spreading love and kindness wherever you go.”
The retreat also focused on the critical role mothers play in promoting vocations within their families. The women were encouraged to recognize and encourage the signs of God’s call in their children, supporting them on their journey to the priesthood or religious life. “As mothers, you have a vital role in fostering vocations,” Fr. Chikankheni reminded them. “Encourage your children to listen to God’s voice and respond generously to His call.”
Furthermore, the women were urged to reach out to their sisters in faith who may be struggling or inconsistent in their attendance at women’s groups. By doing so, they can build stronger bonds of love and support within their community.
The retreat culminated in a beautiful celebration of Holy Mass on the 6th Sunday of Easter, presided over by Fr. Dominic Chikondi Chikankheni. As the women received the Eucharist, they were reminded of the profound dignity and worth that the Church accords to them. In the words of Fr. Chikankheni, “You, dear women, are treasures of the Church, and your contributions are invaluable to the life and mission of the parish.”
As the women dispersed, each one carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and hope. They were empowered to be instruments of God’s love, bringing light and joy to their families, communities, and the world around them. As they journey on, may their example inspire others to embark on their own pilgrimage of hope, deepening their faith and commitment to the Lord.
