PHALULA, BALAKA — Christians of Mzimu Woyera Parish in Phalula on Sunday joyfully celebrated the Solemnity of Pentecost with the conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation on 56 faithful and the rededication of the parish church following recent renovation works.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangochi. In his homily, Bishop Stima encouraged the newly confirmed to remain steadfast in faith and to courageously bear witness to Christ after receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Reflecting on the significance of Pentecost, the Bishop reminded the faithful that the feast commemorates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Upper Room — an event regarded as the birth of the Church and the beginning of her mission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations.
He explained that the Sacrament of Confirmation seals the grace of Baptism and deepens the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. Through the laying on of hands and anointing with sacred chrism, the confirmed are more closely united with the Church and strengthened to witness to Christ through both word and action.
The celebration also featured the rite of rededication of the parish church after renovation works carried out in recent months. Bishop Stima expressed gratitude to the Tembo family for sponsoring the renovations as an act of thanksgiving to God for the blessings bestowed upon their family and business.
He further called on the faithful to emulate such generosity and stewardship in supporting the growth and maintenance of the Church.
The celebration concluded with prayers of thanksgiving and an appeal for the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the parish community and the newly confirmed faithful.
