MANGOCHI — The Diocese of Mangochi has concluded its 3-day Eucharistic Congress held from 3rd–5th September 2026 under the theme “The Eucharist: Source and Summit of Christian Life” (Lumen Gentium 11).
During the Closing Mass at St. Augustine Cathedral, Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima urged Christians to enthrone Christ in families, Small Christian Communities, and parishes.
“The three days of reflection… have reminded us that families without Christ are dead. Small Christian Communities without Christ are dead. Churches and parishes without Christ are dead,” the Bishop said.
Referencing ‘Ecclesia de Eucharistia’, he stressed that the Eucharist is the sacrament of unity and called priests and religious to be “perfect examples” of communion as taught in Presbyterorum Ordinis.
Bishop Stima also appealed to Catholics “not in good standing” to return to the sacraments, and assured those with valid reasons for not receiving Communion: “God has His own ways of blessing you.”
He commissioned the faithful saying: “The journey has started. You are sent as carriers of the Eucharist, carriers of Jesus to others.”
Bishop Emeritus Alessandro Pagani, priests, religious and lay faithful from all parishes attended.
Fr. Medrick Mlava, Pastoral Secretary, said all parish reports will be “consolidated… and sent back to the parishes for implementation.”
