Diocese of Mangochi: YCE Welcomes 49 New Members at Annual General Meeting

Cape Maclear, Mangochi – The Young Christian Workers (YCW) Movement in the Diocese of Mangochi has enrolled 49 new members during its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held from 30 October to 1 November 2026 at Bombwe Lodge in Cape Maclear.

The three-day gathering brought together delegates from across the Diocese to review the Movement’s pastoral activities for 2026 and develop a strategic pastoral plan for 2027.

Guided by its charism of forming young workers to become apostles in their workplaces, the Movement used its See, Judge, Act and Reflect methodology to assess the realities facing young people in the world of work, reflect on them in the light of the Gospel and identify practical actions for Christian witness. This approach reflects the Church’s teaching on the apostolate of the laity, particularly as articulated in the Second Vatican Council’s Decree Apostolicam Actuositatem.

The AGM concluded with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Fr. Christopher Sichinga. In his homily, Fr. Sichinga encouraged the young people to embrace their baptismal call to holiness and demonstrate their Christian faith through their daily work and interactions with others.

He further challenged members to become joyful witnesses of Christ in the world of work, drawing attention to the message of Pope Francis in his Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit, which encourages young people to take an active role in transforming society and bringing the values of the Gospel into their communities.

A major highlight of the gathering was the formal enrolment and commitment of 49 new members, marking a significant step in strengthening the YCW Movement in the Diocese of Mangochi and expanding its mission among young workers.
