Nankhwali, Mangochi – In response to the pastoral appeal of the Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, Bishop of Mangochi, and the Sacramentine Sisters conducted a catechetical session on the mystery of the Holy Eucharist for the faithful of Our Lady of Victories Parish, Nankhwali, on Ascension Sunday, 24th May 2026.
Sr. Simwaka addressed the congregation for fifty minutes before the celebration of Holy Mass, offering a comprehensive reflection on the sacrament of the Eucharist. She spoke on the doctrine of transubstantiation, the real and substantial presence of Christ in the Eucharist, historically attested Eucharistic miracles, and the spiritual fruits of Eucharistic adoration and Benediction. The session provided the faithful with a deeper understanding of the central mystery of the Church’s faith and worship, in accord with the teaching of Sacrosanctum Concilium on the active and conscious participation of the faithful in the sacred liturgy.
During the Mass, the Parish Priest, Fr. Ted Chigamba, delivered an emotive homily in which he also marked the observance of World Communications Day. He urged the faithful to make prudent and fruitful use of the mass media, and especially social media, for the work of evangelization and the proclamation of the Gospel.
“Let us follow the example of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who used the digital space to spread love and devotion to the Holy Eucharist,” Fr. Chigamba said, encouraging the congregation to employ modern means of communication as instruments of the New Evangelization, in line with the exhortations of Inter Mirifica and the annual messages of the Holy Father for World Communications Day.
The Sacramentine Sisters are undertaking this exercise of Eucharistic catechesis across all 25 parishes of the Diocese of Mangochi, at the request of Bishop Stima, to deepen the faithful’s appreciation of the Eucharist as “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, 11).
